Wesley Morris, Lead Instructor and Manager of Training

Originally from Southeast Nebraska, I learned to operate heavy equipment and built highways in the late ‘70s. In the early 80s, I got in to the Transportation Industry in Oklahoma. I first got my Commercial Chauffeurs License (Before the CDL) in 1983.  I started driving for Frontier Express in Burns Flat, Oklahoma where I pulled pups, doubles, and 45’ dry van trailers, picking up and delivering freight, and occasionally a nightly haul to Oklahoma City and back. My first set of double-trailers were two 45’ trailers with a tandem axle dolly!

I then moved up to become the Terminal Manager / Driver in late 1983 until 1986 where I managed 4-6 employees and picked up and delivered freight in towns surrounding us from SW Oklahoma to Texas. Late 1986 I relocated to Nebraska to continue to advance my career.  I drove as an Over-the-Road Driver for a 20 truck fleet, H & S Transportation. I pulled 48’ / 102” refrigerated trailers, and within 6 short months I had trucked thru 46 of the 48 states! I started out driving from Lincoln, Nebraska to Long Island, New York and eventually, to the West Coast.

My career as a Professional Truck driver soared when I became a line-haul driver for Consolidated Freightways in early 1987.  I was a solo driver from Lincoln to Denver, Saint Louis, Chicago, Cheyenne, and Salt Lake. I pulled doubles and triples, and safely traveled many miles on snow and ice from Lincoln, Nebraska to Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and California. I was transferred to Portland, Oregon in 1995 when CF closed its terminal in Lincoln, NE.  I was with CF until the bitter end when it finally closed its doors in 2002 and filed for Federal Bankruptcy protection.  I became closely acquainted with Greg Reisnaur during my career at CF, who served as my Line-Haul Manager, as well as my friend and partner in Safety and Training.  During my career at CF, I was showered with the many awards such as:

  • Over 2 million miles of Accident-Free Driving.
  • “Most Valuable Performer”
  • Safety Facilitator and Driver-Trainer of the Portland, Oregon Terminal (PTM)
  • Distinguished member of CF’s President’s Circle (the highest award given any CF employee)

Many of the programs, education and safety awareness I participated in involve the following:

  • Certified Instructor of the Smith-System to Accident Free Driving
  • Winter Driving Network within the CF system, of assisting Drivers and Network Controllers at Corporate Headquarters during inclement weather
  • Actively participated in Accident Investigations, Post-Accident Driver Interviews; processed Applications for Driver and Dock positions
  • Interviews, Orientations, Road-Tests, and a Special Safety Training for All Employees in Reducing Accidents and Injuries, conducted all the inner CF Triples Certifying and Long Combination Vehicle Training
  • Photo-shoots for CF Advertising and Promotional Campaigns from 1999 to 2002.
  • Attended many of Oregon Department of Transportation’s seminars in Portland, on behalf of CF.
  • I was actively involved with CF’s Director of Safety, as well as many others on Safety Issues.

After CF, I drove for Arkansas Best Freight (ABF) until late 2003. I drove in Oregon, Washington, and Canada. There, I pulled Triples in Oregon, and Doubles in Washington and Canada.  I have over 16 ½ years “vested” in the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

I became Manager of Training and Lead Instructor for Greg at Elite Truck School in 2003. With me, I brought over 20 years of experience, and have logged more than 2 million “Accident-Free” miles (nearly 47 times around earth!). Safety, Professionalism, and Cushion have to be every step of every trip. I love to help students with the same dreams of being a Professional, because I know that you too can probably be one. Focus, Commitment, and Dedication is all you’ll need, because that’s what you’ll get from me. Enroll today!

My students always come first, but I sometimes do Special Training if you think you’re in need.
