Did you know that approximately 9.2 billion tons of freight are moved by truck every year in the United States? That’s about 70% of all the freight in the country. Truck drivers are essential to keeping America moving and are a driving force behind our economy. Despite how integral truck drivers are to the United States, there is currently a shortage of drivers. The United States will need an estimated 330,000 more truck drivers by the year 2020, as many drivers are reaching retirement age and government regulations are changing how trucking companies operate.
