The Jake brake is an engine brake that can help you handle certain terrains and conditions safely and comfortably. As long as you are lined up correctly, you will never have to worry about the truck jackknifing. While modern engines are automatic, older mechanical engines could stall the motor if you left the Jake switch on and walked away. Make sure the motor is hot enough for you to use your Jake brake, and refrain from using it if you are overdue for oil. Remember that although it tends to work best in lower RPMs, the Jake brake can be used in higher RPMs as well.
